It retains its attractive quality for much longer and won't soften. Rather than the soft feel of the original firebrick, this new material feels more like sandstone. It's hard to imagine what this new piece will look like in your new stove but I can tell you, it makes it look like a brand new stove. You'll find this item very easy to install requiring minimal tools and mechanical knowledge.
